Depression is a highly treatable disorder, even in the most severe cases. As with most illnesses, the earlier it is detected and treated, the more effective it is and the greater the likelihood of recurrence can be prevented.

The first step of treatment is to visit a doctor. Some medical conditions can cause the same symptoms as depression. A doctor can rule out these possibilities. Once a medical condition has been ruled out, the doctor may refer to a mental health professional or conduct a psychological evaluation.

If depression is diagnosed there are different types of treatment. The most common types of treatment are medication and psychotherapy. does not promote or discourage this use of antidepressant medications. This is a private matter between a patient and physician to determine the right treatment for each individual separately.
